Food production forms the basis of society. Without sufficient food to eat, people can’t focus on anything other than survival. To help combat hunger while feeding a world population that is over 6 billion strong and growing, new methods of making more food on less land are increasingly important. On smart farms, farmers, using sensor platforms, equipped with our generator, are optimizing the crop output of each acre of farmland. This means that it costs less to produce each acre of cropland while increasing total crop output, increasing food availability and addressing hunger.
Our generator is a critical part of this system because the farm sensors are often remote, making battery changes difficult or expensive. With 25 years of maintenance free service life, the sensors don’t even need to be withdrawn at the end of each growing season. With frost detectors, crops can be planted earlier in the year. With moisture and nutrition sensors, growing seasons can be extended into fall weather. Perhaps research will surface showing the use of permanent sensor placements to widen the growing season.
